Advanced Care Unit

The Advanced Care Unit at Samaritan has 9 beds. It specializes in the treatment of patients ages 3 days and older with critical medical or surgical problems. The purpose and mission of the Advanced Care Unit is to provide care for all who require cardiac monitoring and those critically ill patients who may also require hemodynamic monitoring or breathing assistance via BiPap or a ventilator.

The Advanced Care Unit is staffed with registered nurses and 1 certified nursing assistant during the day shift. All staff members are licensed in the state of Washington and hold basic life support certifications. Our registered nurses are all certified in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and trauma nurse training.

We have many other staff members who work in conjunction with the nursing staff, including physical therapists, respiratory therapists, discharge planners, care managers and dietary specialists.

Most of our patients are cared for by a hospitalist—a physician who sees only hospitalized patients and does not have an outside office. Your primary physician is notified you are here, and you will be referred back to your own physician upon discharge.
