Knees, Shoulders, Hips, and more

Whether your orthopaedic surgery is planned or unexpected, Samaritan’s surgical team – Dr. Leo Chough, Dr. Billy Thompson, and Dr. Brett DeGooyer – is ready to care for you. Orthopaedics involves the musculoskeletal system, which includes muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons. Conditions could include musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, and more.

Dr. Leo Chough is an on-staff orthopaedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist. He has a wealth of surgical expertise in arthroscopy and joint replacement procedures, which allows patients to gain mobility and recover faster with less pain. Dr. Chough is highly skilled in joint replacement surgery—anterior hip replacement, knee replacement, and reverse and regular shoulder replacement—as well as arthroscopic procedures, such as rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction/revision, and more.

Dr. Billy Thompson, an on-staff orthopaedic surgeon, is fellowship-trained in sports medicine with a second fellowship in shoulder surgery. He has specialized expertise in shoulder and upper arm surgeries, and has additional experience in hip, knee, and other joint replacement surgeries, as well as ACL and rotator cuff procedures. Previously, he served as an orthopaedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has maintained a keen interest in helping patients regain their active lifestyles – on and off the field.

Dr. Brett DeGooyer is our fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine physician. Whether an injury or medical concern occurs in the workplace, the home, or while participating in sports or recreation, Dr. DeGooyer’s wide range of professional experience and active approach to healing provide treatments for patients of all ages when injuries do not require surgery.

Dr. Chough performs total knee replacements using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution—one of only seven VELYS units currently available in the Northwest. This precise and highly accurate technology customizes your knee replacement for the best fit. Because your knees are different from everyone else’s, with VELYS, Dr. Chough uses reliably precise technology that allows him to perform a knee replacement with real-time data—information that’s tailored to the anatomy of each individual patient’s knee. It’s so specific, that when compared to traditional knee replacement surgery, it often results in less pain, increased mobility, and aids in a faster return to your daily activities. Experience custom-designed knee replacement that’s precision-crafted to fit your knee, right here at Samaritan.

We also have a state-of-the-art HANA surgical table to position the patient’s body for orthopaedic surgery, such as an anterior hip replacement, which allows the surgeon to replace the hip through a single, short incision without detaching the muscle from the pelvis or femur. Dr. Chough has performed the anterior hip replacement since 2003 and served as a regional live instructor for other surgeons wanting to learn the technique. His expertise and experience in these procedures utilize muscle-sparing surgical techniques—leading to more rapid recoveries for our orthopaedic surgery patients.
